Sea Turtle release

The third morning at the beach, our little deserted section had TV crews and a bit of a crowd out. Come to find out, the Sea Turtle Hospital on the island was releasing 5 small and 2 larger turtles that morning. It was one of the coolest things I have seen in quite a while. The little ones were flapping their fins in the salt air, as if they couldn't wait to be free. The big guys looked SO heavy -- they each weighed over 150 pounds.

This sea turtle was named Sennet, and he had a satellite antenna on his back. You can go to seaturtle.org and see where he is right now at this very minute. This was such an amazing bonus to be able to witness.

The next morning was a bit overcast, so we dropped by the turtle hospital for a look. We knew it was closed, but were told that if there was someone there, we could peek in the windows and someone would show us a turtle or two. It was great -- we got to see some "sick" turtles and asked all kinds of questions. Even G asked the woman "what do turtles eat?" (with the pronunciation of turtles sounding like totos, because he can't say his r's.) Very informative and just plain cool. The woman below on the right really knew her stuff and was more than passionate about her patients. It felt like a little "home school" field trip -- and we all loved it, except for Oliver, who screamed in the car . . .
